This new take on the classic franchise, which sees a group of adventurers on a quest in the Amazon, is a comedic masterpiece with a unique spin. It's not a reboot, not a remake, but a fresh and original take on the 1997 film starring Jennifer Lopez.
Selton Mello, one of the stars alongside Paul Rudd and Jack Black, describes it as something truly unique. The 2025 version of Anaconda sees Rudd and Black playing unlikely heroes - a background actor and a wedding videographer, respectively - who embark on a mission to remake the original film. And the best part? It's all done with a healthy dose of humor and a touch of meta-narrative magic.
Director Tom Gormican explains, "Jack and Paul bring an incredible dynamic to the film. They can seamlessly shift between comedy and drama, making the action scenes feel incredibly real and intense."
But here's where it gets controversial... or rather, snake-less! Despite the film's focus on a giant snake, Mello, who plays a snake handler, reveals an interesting fact: "I never saw a real snake on set! It's all CGI. But the imagination and creativity make it feel so real."
And this is the part most people miss... the meta narrative! Gormican's experiences as a filmmaker are weaved into the story, creating a unique, behind-the-scenes feel. As he puts it, "Our filmmaking journey informed the characters' experiences. Even when we lost a major location, it became part of the story."
Mello is particularly excited about one scene - the snake funeral. "It's a serious, crazy, funny, and touching moment all at once. Tom's direction was brilliant, and it's a scene I think audiences will love."
