Divya Dutta Recalls Intimate Scene with Irrfan Khan on 'Hisss' Set: 'Friendship is Key'
Divya Dutta recently shared a fascinating insight into the evolution of on-set intimacy coordination. In an interview, she reminisced about her collaboration with the late Irrfan Khan on the 2010 film 'Hisss', highlighting a pivotal scene that required a delicate balance of emotion and comfort.
'It was a beautiful scene, a childless couple crying and making love,' Dutta described. 'Our director, Jennifer Lynch, David Lynch's daughter, had a unique vision. Half the crew were outsiders, and the other half were our own people. Everyone was standing in a way that this shot should turn out perfect, which made me nervous.'
Dutta revealed that intimacy coordinators were not a standard part of the crew at that time, adding, 'Back then, intimacy directors were not appointed.'
Despite the lack of formal intimacy coordination, Dutta's friendship with Irrfan Khan proved invaluable. She recalled, 'I asked where Irrfan was, and my director said, 'He's sitting on the terrace, he's even more nervous than you.' That's when your friendship really helps. You have to convey the correct emotion and ensure your co-star is comfortable.'
The two actors reunited in 2018 for 'Blackmail', playing husband and wife and maintaining their strong on-screen and off-screen bond. Dutta's perspective on the importance of friendship in creating authentic and comfortable performances is a testament to the power of human connection in the film industry.
