Prepare to be enchanted by the upcoming game that's sure to cast a spell on players everywhere! Bruce Straley, co-creator of the iconic The Last of Us, is back with a new studio and an exciting adventure.
Wildflower Interactive, founded by Straley in 2022, has unveiled its first project: Coven of the Chicken Foot. This game promises a unique twist on the witchy adventure genre, and it's already creating quite a buzz.
During the Game Awards in 2025, the studio revealed this enchanting tale, describing it as "a single-player journey where an old witch and a peculiar creature form an unlikely bond to fulfill a sacred oath." But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, a little unexpected.
In the reveal trailer, we meet Gertie, an elderly witch, and her oddball companion. Together, they navigate vibrant worlds, solving puzzles and overcoming challenges. It's a companion-based gameplay experience like no other. Wildflower Interactive explains that your creature-companion is an intelligent entity, capable of observing, learning, and adapting to new situations. But the studio also emphasizes that this creature is a fully-fledged character with its own unique motivations and surprises.
"The dungeons are empty, the monsters are gone, and the heroes have moved on. But Gertie, our elderly witch, remains. She's been waiting for her chance to prove herself to her coven, and now she must enlist the help of an unusual creature to counter the prideful actions of these so-called heroes."
Players will embark on a journey with Gertie, exploring dark dungeons, lush forests, and the catacombs of fallen heroes. But Gertie is no ordinary hero. She won't be wielding swords or performing double jumps. Instead, she must rely on her wit and the unique abilities of her companion to survive. It's a refreshing take on the typical action-adventure formula.
And this is the part most people miss: Gertie and her creature-companion don't share a common language. They communicate through actions and environmental cues. Wildflower Interactive wants players to discover the creature's true intentions and motivations on their own, inviting them to explore and uncover the narrative through the game world itself.
Coven of the Chicken Foot is currently in development for PC, but the release date remains a mystery. What do you think about this magical adventure? Will it cast a spell on you, or is it just another witchy tale? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! We'd love to hear your predictions and opinions on this unique game.
