Ana de Armas opens up about her bond with Keanu Reeves, revealing a friendship that feels both natural and meaningful within the John Wick universe.
In a Red Sea International Film Festival interview reported by The Hollywood Reporter, de Armas explained how her working relationship with Reeves began and how it has evolved over the years. When she first moved to Los Angeles and filmed Knock Knock, she recalls hardly speaking English, which made communication challenging. Despite that hurdle, they bonded and formed a lasting friendship, characterized by Reeves’ kindness and generosity.
De Armas also touched on her 2025 project, Ballerina, a spin-off set in the John Wick world that centers on her character Eve Macarro. She described the collaboration as a full-circle moment, noting how Reeves and director Chad Stahelski helped shape the franchise’s expansive universe. Having Reeves’ support a decade after their first collaboration meant a great deal to her.
Her early appearance opposite Reeves came in 2015’s Knock Knock, a thriller directed by Eli Roth, which preceded her later involvement in the John Wick canon by about ten years.
Since joining Good Morning America in May, de Armas has spoken about the experience of filming Ballerina and working alongside Reeves. She expressed heartfelt appreciation for Reeves’ presence on set, describing him as someone she admires and enjoys having nearby while making the film.
But here’s where it gets interesting: this friendship isn’t just about nostalgia. It underscores how long-running collaborations can deepen trust and openness on set, ultimately influencing performances and the creative energy of a project. And this is the part most people miss when only focusing on action sequences—the human connections behind the scenes often drive the magic onscreen.
